Altenmarkt is part of Salzburger Sportworld, one of the 5 regions that make up Ski Amadé .
This opens up a huge area with a diverse range of pistes and freeride areas in the different locations with something for everyone especially skiers, snowboarders, carvers and freeriders.
The twin holiday-paradise of Altenmarkt-Zauchensee, has 2 contrasting towns and 2 contrasting ski areas all under one roof! Altenmarkt is in an open valley and has a gentle ski area that is ideal for families and those who love a cruise and a visit to a friendly rustic hut or two, Zauchensee is more for the faster skiers with challenging pistes and freeride areas and is nestled in a mountain basin.

Radstadt-Altenmarkt Ski Area (from 842 to 1,571m)
Just 1 km from Alpenland Hotel you will find the Altenmarkt-Radstadt ski area ... one mountain, split between 2 towns. Small yet beautiful, this family-friendly ski area has 18 kilometres of piste and 8 lifts, wide open gentle pistes, modern lifts and traditional huts. As everything is open it is easy to keep track of your kids. 9 km of easy (blue), 8 km of intermediate (red) and 1 km of difficult (black) pistes are very inviting to skiers and snowboarders alike.
The Happy Ski School is located at the Altenmarkt base station and the nursery slope with its „Fichtelland“ is ideal for beginners and kids to get the hang of skiing before heading out on to the main area.
Friendly atmosphere and cordiality are on hand in the traditional rustic ski huts, one of which, the Hochnössler-Alm, belongs to the Alpenland Hotel ,and can be found halfway up the Altenmarkt side and as it is on a blue piste it is the perfect place to take a break and enjoy the views. 2-3 times a week everything livens up in the evening with the Hüttengaudi musical eveing with live music, a chance to dance and fun entertainment.
The 4km long floodlit toboggan run starts right from this hut too. An ideal way to get home after some aprés ski.
The bus stop for the free bus service stops just 50m from the Alpenland Hotel. The new Altenmarkt 10-man gondola brings you quickly and comfortably up to the top of the ski area at 1.561m. Then you can decide whether to ski towards Altenmarkt or Radstadt.
Zauchensee / Flachauwinkel / Kleinarl linked ski areas
From Altenmarkt go south for 10 km to the end of the valley at 1.350 m above sealevel, and you will find the World Cup town of Zauchensee. This snow-sure resort that is the highest located in Salzburger Sportworld is connected to Flachauwinkel and therefore Kleinarl. There are 65 kilometres of pistes suitable for beginners, intermediates and pros. There is something for everyone with gentle runs, racing pistes, moguls and deep powder areas. 25 modern lifts get you where you want to go and the Shuttleberg at Flachauwinkl- Kleinarl, has the Absolut-Park, a Mecca for Freestylers, Snowboarder and Freeskiers.
When you are ready to take a break then there are plenty of huts and restaurants. If you need more kit then there are plenty of ski shops at the base stations and if you need lessons, there are great ski schools on hand. There is a free regular skibus service between Altenmarkt and Zauchensee.
Salzburger Sportworld Ski Areas
Salzburger Sportworld, counts not only Altenmarkt-Radstadt and Zauchensee/Flachauwinkel/Kleinarl but also the following neighbouring towns:
- Eben (3km)
- Filzmoos (15 km)
- Flachau (6km)
- Wagrain (12km)
- St. Johann/Alpendorf (27 km)
Flachau-Wagrain and Wagrain-Alpendorf are in a 3-valley ski area, all linked by pistes and ski lifts.
From Altenmarkt you can take the free ski bus service to familly paradise Altenmarkt-Radstadt, ski paradise Zauchensee as well as Flachau and Flachauwinkel.

If you buy a multiday ticket then you are not restricted to just the Salzburger Sportworld ski region but you can also use your lift pass at all 5 ski regions. This opens up 270 lifts and 760 kilometres of pistes throughout Austria's largest ski region cooperative Ski amadé with 25 ski resorts, including the Dachstein glacier.

All of the resorts in Salzburger Sportworld are easy to reach by car and have free parking. Free ski busses link local ski resorts. From Altenmarkt, winter guests can use the free ski bus service to Altenmarkt-Radstadt as well as Zauchensee then there are also busses going to Flachau and Flachauwinkel.
